Quick answer

When a paid clip involves a material connection, advertising disclosure may be required. Check the current ASCI guidance and platform rules for the relationship and format. Make the disclosure noticeable and understandable. It does not replace permission to use the content or justify misleading claims about the product or service.

A few terms, explained
Disclosure
A clear label telling viewers about an advertising or paid relationship where required. It does not replace permission to use the content.
Source content
The original video, recording or other material used to make the clip. Check permission, context and any restrictions before editing or publishing.
Campaign brief
The written plan explaining what to make, who it is for, allowed sources, deadlines, review and payment rules.

Review the commercial relationship before editing

Disclosure planning begins with the real relationship behind the post. Ask who supplied the source, who commissioned the work, who publishes and what commercial connection exists. Do not wait until the final export to discover that an on-screen label or caption treatment needs review.

ASCI’s influencer guidance is a relevant primary reference for Indian advertising disclosures. Use the current guidance and the actual format to decide what is required, with appropriate advice for unresolved questions. This article explains the production handoff; it is not a legal ruling about every clip or a substitute for the detailed policy reference.

Put the disclosure decision in the brief

The brief should identify the approved label, placement and person responsible for checking it. Describe what goes in the video, post caption and platform-provided controls where applicable. A general instruction to “follow disclosure rules” is less useful than a reviewed decision for the actual deliverable.

Keep the decision with the current brief version. If the publishing account or commercial arrangement changes, review the treatment again. A file made for an owned channel may later be used by a participant account under a different arrangement. Reuse should not bypass the disclosure review simply because the edit was previously approved.

Design the label as part of the final layout

Make the agreed disclosure understandable and visible in the actual export. Test text size, contrast, timing and overlap with captions or interface elements. A label that looks clear in a large editing preview may become difficult to read on a phone.

Use the official planning reference for format-specific requirements rather than inventing one universal overlay duration. Keep the label’s purpose separate from decorative branding or a creator credit. A viewer should be able to understand the commercial context without decoding an obscure symbol or searching through unrelated hashtags.

Review the complete post package

Check the final video, title, caption, tags, credit and relevant platform controls together. The publisher should receive the approved text with the file. A compliant-looking video can be undermined by a caption that omits the reviewed context or makes a stronger unsupported claim.

Assign the final check to someone who understands the brief and actual commercial relationship. If the publisher changes the caption, return the affected text for review. Do not assume that a platform-generated label settles every requirement in the campaign’s jurisdiction or format. Keep the reviewed package connected to its source and version.

Handle corrections and republishing explicitly

If a label is missing or unreadable, identify the affected post and use the agreed correction process. Record what changed and whether the final post now matches the approved package. A private acknowledgement of the error does not by itself correct the audience-facing material.

For reposts and new crops, review the disclosure again. Text can disappear when a video is reframed, and an earlier caption may not travel with the file. Build this check into the reuse handoff. The aim is to keep the commercial context understandable wherever the authorised clip appears, rather than approving one file and forgetting later versions.

Retain a practical decision record

Keep the brief version, relationship description, approved treatment, reviewer and final post reference under appropriate access controls. Record any unresolved question and its owner. This helps the team investigate a problem without reconstructing decisions from scattered messages.

At campaign close, inspect whether the publication records match the approved packages. Use recurring issues to improve the next brief or layout template. Disclosure becomes easier to manage when it is part of production, review and publication, not an afterthought added to a generic checklist. Keep policy references current and avoid presenting an old template as permanent guidance.

Map the relationship before choosing the label

Record who benefits from the content, what commercial or other material connection exists and who can confirm it. Use the current official guidance and the actual circumstances to determine the appropriate disclosure. Do not select a label merely because it looks familiar in another campaign.

Keep unresolved questions with a responsible owner. An editor may know the source but not the complete commercial arrangement. The package should remain pending where that missing information affects a required decision. This worksheet supports review; it is not a legal determination of the relationship.

Inspect the complete published presentation

Review the file, caption, title and intended account together. Ask whether the audience can understand the relevant relationship in the actual viewing experience. Use current official guidance for the applicable format rather than treating the existence of any label as sufficient.

Inspect the actual export and available publication preview. A disclosure can be lost during reframing, covered by interface elements or contradicted by accompanying text. Record what was checked and which version the decision covers, so a later edit does not silently undo it.

Plan corrections without rewriting the record

If a missing or unclear disclosure is discovered, identify the actual published item and ask the responsible owner to assess the required correction through the appropriate current route. Record the issue, action and revised state only as they occur.

Do not backdate approval or imply the original version was correct because it was later changed. Review connected versions that share the issue. The process should preserve an honest history while getting the current package assessed and repaired.

Give the publisher a complete disclosure handoff

Supply the accepted asset, text, relevant relationship decision and any publication instructions that actually apply. Name who must confirm unresolved information. Keep the source and commercial records appropriately private while making the publishing responsibility clear.

After publication, inspect the actual item if that is within scope. A file review cannot establish that the publisher used the same package. Record the real link and observation, and keep policy sufficiency separate from an editor’s technical acceptance.

Questions about Disclosure Workflow for Paid Clips in India

When should disclosure be decided?

During briefing, with the actual commercial relationship, format and publisher identified.

Can I use the same overlay for every format?

Check the current format-specific guidance and the real layout.

Does a platform label settle every requirement?

Do not assume so. Review the applicable requirements for the actual arrangement.

What happens when the clip is reposted?

Recheck the caption, crop, commercial context and disclosure for the new publication.

Who should confirm the commercial relationship?

The responsible owner with access to the actual arrangement, using appropriate current guidance or qualified advice where needed. An editor should flag missing information rather than infer it from a familiar label or another campaign.

Does reviewing the file prove the published disclosure is correct?

No. The publisher may use different text or a different version. If publication inspection is in scope, check the actual item and record the observation. Keep technical acceptance and policy assessment distinct.
